The scene is 1966 the AHRA World Points Meet at Green Valley Texas, as Texas 'Longhorn" Ray Capps, in his 64 Plymouth puts a "Holeshot" win on the Missouri Mule Doc Spence, in his "'Skootin Cuda."
I like the contrast between these two cars. Doctor Richard "Doc" Spence built the beautiful Metalflake Blue "Skootin Cuda", in his garage at home. The Cuda was sponsored by the Sites Bros. Plymouth Dealership in Kansas City, Missouri . It featured the latest state-of-the-art fiberglass front fenders, doors, and Plexiglas windows.
On the other hand, Ray Capps apparently had little use for such esthetics, as he built the ”Headhunter” in his driveway. the car started life as a 64 Plymouth, a Dodge nose clip was added, and to save weight, he just simply took a hacksaw and chopped the top off the car. Capps went on to runner-up at this event, and it must have paid him enough to have the signs on his car Professionally repainted, as opposed to his homespun signage seen here...
