Long before anyone ever conceived thought of a Nitro burning Supercharged Funny Car,
Jack was there!
Not content with being 'Top Dog" at Indy, Jack Chrisman always pushed the envelope to take him to the next level.
In 1964, Jack's hairy beast was the talk of Drag Racing. He campaigned this Nitro burning Comet to a B/FD Runner-up finish at Indy, pushing the car to top speeds of 156mph...
Sponsored by Sachs & Sons Lincoln Mercury dealership in Downey California, the car was made up from a factory FX Drag Package. This included fiberglass front fenders, hood and doors with Plexiglas windows.
A Nitro Burning, Supercharged 427 Ford Overhead-cam engine with Enderle Fuel Injection, supplied the power. Woody Gilmore fabricated the front-end, which featured Anglia spindles.
Seen here in an early "Test-Session" at Carlsbad, as Jack sets the tires a blaze.
It must have been a handful to drive this little white beastie. Imagine the vibration he endured, being strapped down the a fiberglass seat bolted directly to the floor boards ?
I bet that rattled his back teeth.
