Keeling & Clayton's 73/76 Mustang Funny Car
In the mid 70s one of the prettiest Funny Cars on tour was Keeling & Clayton's "California Charger" Mustang.
The K & C's cars were always beautiful and their Don Long built Mustang was no exception. First built in 1973, the car ran a 417 Donovan Motor with a 2 speed Transmission, until it was retired at the end of 1976.
Several people drove the car over it's 3 year period including Tom Ferraro, Pat Foster, Jake Johnson, even Billy Meyer drove it for a short time and seen here as Neil Leffler was the shoe.
This is a scene in the pits at the 1975 U.S. Nationals at Indy. In 75 the car ran times of 5.98 at 241.53 mph. by 1976 the et was reduced to a 5.94 at a faster speed of 247.93mph.
I want to Thank Veteran Photographer Tom Nagy for the photo reference for this painting...
