I suppose you could write a book on the influence this car had on Drag Racing, and muscle cars in general. This 65 Dodge, perhaps more than any other car, helped create Drag Racing's favorite class, the Funny Car.
I have seen more then a dozen painted images of this great car, but they have all been basically the same scene, a front 3/4 shot, with the front wheels in the air. I've looked over the years for the best image of this car, and as it turned out, I had it all along...This is and image from Riverside Raceway in 65. Landy had just won the March Meet, and showed up here at Riverside with a new set of stacks on his Hemi monster...Dick told me, the length of the stacks, shows how much Nitro the car was running. The shorter the stacks, the bigger nitro load...Here at the Hot Rod Magazine meet, the car ran on about 10% juice...Although the sky is full of rain clouds, there was no rain at the 65 event. The big water puddle that is reflecting the car, was probably created by the water trucks spraying down the large runoff dirt areas next to the track...All in all, I think this is the classiest image I've seen of this Legendary car...I'll have more later on how this car influenced and aroused my interest in the sport of Drag Racing.
