Roger Lindmood had a colorful series of 'Color Me Gone" funnies starting back in 1965.
Here we see Roger demonstrating how "Not To" tune a fuel motor to run in high altitude. This fiery ride took place during qualifying at the 1973 AHRA Spring Nationals at (Mile High) "Century 21 Raceway in Denver Colorado...
When you can't get enough air into the fuel mixture, it tends to hydraulic the motor, resulting in a broken rod that sometimes kicks a hole in the block. The resulting fire caused by 12 quarts of oil exiting the block and ignited by the headers, can cause catastrophic damage.
As seen here, Roger is trying to coral his blazing Dodge Challenger, and we can see that the fire extinguishing system has squelched the fire in the cockpit. However, when the car did come to a stop, Roger had suffered some facial burns, but he was quickly treated and released. Unfortunately the car was unable to make the show.
