I need to Thank two people for making this painting possible. First is my buddy Tim Pearl for turning me on to this image, and second is Lou Hart the photographer, for letting me use it. Thanks Guys!

"Well what seems like a fairly simple composition (painting wise), this image held a few challenges for me...

First off, is the smoggy setting. I mean what color is smog? Growing up in So Cal, you would think I would very familiar with it, and indeed I've inhaled my fair share of it...I now realize that Gas painted his cars a bright orange, probably just to be able to see them through the smog.

Here we see Gas dumping the chute at Irwindale on a normal smoggy afternoon...You can see a couple of Santa Fe's boxcars in the background, but visibility that day, was only about a mile, so there is no way to see the hills in the distance...There is photographer standing on the roof of his car ( do you remember when you could stand on the roof of your car?), waiting for that perfect shot. The guardrail in the foreground is an important part of the scene, as we are reminded how dangerous these early tracks were, (Thank God for K-Wall) as a number of drivers lost their lives when meeting that rail...

Ronda's 69 Stang, is arguably the best looking Mustang ever! It certainly was everyone's favorite Ronda car...This 69 car stood-out even more, because of the "Bitchen" Gene Winfield Candy Tangerine paint job. The car virtually appeared to glow, because the paint was so translucent... This car was also Gas Ronda's last ride. The car caught fire and burned Gas severely, he retired from driving shortly after that...
