"If you ever saw the Bio-Movie "Heart Like a Wheel," you would think Shirley was the first woman Drag Racer ever, and that is far from truth. Long before SM ever saw a Drag Strip, Della Woods was tearing up the tracks in her Nitro Funny Car; along with a couple of other gals, they were Old Pros before SM ever stepped on the scene.
Della's husband De Nichols, is the crewcheif on the car, and in the 80s they campaigned this Dodge Daytona on the NHRA circuit. Here we see Della in 1986, putting the "pedal to the metal," captured in her glory by my old buddy Leslie Lovett.
