It's hard to believe that it's been more then 25 years since Tony McCallum barnstormed this Dodge FC...Tony's life, was cut tragically short by a traffic accident in late 1989, that sadly ended a what could have been a Standout career in the sport...
This particular Funny Car was campaigned by Tony in his second year behind the wheel...The car's paint scheme was designed by DCP, and was awarded "Best Appearing" at the 1989 California Nationals In Sonoma. (This was DCP's 1st, of over 100 "Best Appearing Car" awards, he has received for his graphic design work)...The car was painted by John Pugh and it was featured in Drag Racing Magazine...It was one of the first Purple cars to sneak back into the sport at the time, and soon after, Purple became "The Color." This really was the car that started that trend...
This image, is a highly photorealistic airbrush painting by DCP as a presentation piece for Tony...Sadly, this beautiful image was never used for it intended purposes...
So now we are proud to release, " California Purples," as a tribute to an aspiring Funny Car Driver, and a inspiring Funny Car ....
