The cleanest looking Funny Car in 1967 had to be Butch Leal's "California Flash" Barracuda.
After Leal's "Match Racing " success with his 65 A/FX Plymouth in 65 and 66, Butch wanted to step up his game for the 67 season. He contacted Logghe Chassis, to build a car that could compete against the very successful Flip-Top Mercury Cyclones. They had stormed onto the stage the previous year, whipping out the competition and literally changed the way Funny Cars were constructed.
Running an injected engine, the Poppy Red and White Cuda ran a 8.05 ET. right out of the box, and sent a signal to the rest of the field that California was looking to do some damage on the "Match Race" circuit. The following year Butch was to field a Supercharged version of the car, but before the car's construction was finished, Leal had changed his mind.
He was getting nervous about the high speeds these cars were reaching and decided to bailout of Funny Cars altogether. He sold the unfinished car the Don Schumacher, who then painted it Blue and White, and the rest is history!!!
