One of the prettiest Top Fuel cars of all time, is Daryl Greenamyer's " Smirnoff" sponsored Fueler.
Greenamyer flew F100A for the Tactical Air Command in Tucson Arizona for more then a year. After his discharge from the Air Force, he went to Edwards Air Base and became a test pilot for the F104 Starfighter. Later he was hired by Lockheed Aircraft as a test pilot for the "SR-71 Blackbird."
It was Dave Zeuschel that first introduced Daryl to the art of Top Fuel racing by taking him to Lions’ Drag Strip. Daryl was instantly hooked, and immediately began planning how he could acquire his own Top Fueler. Since Daryl was already racing the “Smirnoff’ Grumman Bearcat race plane, and the "Miss Smirnoff" Unlimited Hydroplane boat, he thought why a Top Fueler as well? He went to Ralph Hart CEO of “Smirnoff,“ and sold him on the idea of sponsoring a Dragster.
Greenamyer contacted Roy Fjastad of “Speed Products Engineering to build the chassis, Steve Swaja designed the "one-of-a-kind" bodywork, and Bob Sorrell (Of Scrima-Liner fame) fabricated the sleek body, and the beautiful Pearl Blue and White paint job was laid down by Reuben. Dave Zeuschel was hired as engine builder and crew chief and built a Supercharged Nitro 392 Chrysler Hemi with direct drive.
Daryl drove the car, along with Gary Gabelich, and Larry Dixon Sr. The car set low ET at the 67 PDA meet with a 7.01 elapsed time.
I thought this was a real "Space-Age" looking car in 1967, and fortunately for us, the car has been restored recently to it's original beauty and can bee seen at "Cackle-Fests" events.
