The year 1965, the place, Fontana Drag City, the car, Bob Harrington's "Bush Master" Willys Pickup!
While Bob Harrington from Phoenix Arizona might not have been a "Household Name," his Willys pickup named the "Bush Master" was terrifying the gasser competition none-the-less...
Bob's Willy's featured a tilt-up one-piece fiberglass front-end (fenders and hood,) a chopped roof line, and ran a vintage 1957, 392 blown hemi engine. The little truck weighed in at 2,860 lbs making it one of the lightest gassers in competition.
I painted this image from one of my Bob Wagner photos, and as I cropped down into the image to get closer to the truck, I noticed something special in the background.  Standing in front of the red car in the background is the Most Famous team in Drag Racing,,, Fred Stone, Leonard Woods and Doug Cook, (standing in that order, how cool is that?),, they knew for sure Bob’s truck was the one to watch!
I hope you enjoy my history tid bits of this sport of Drag Racing...   DCP
