With out a doubt, one of the "Baddest" Chargers to ever haunt the drag strip was Dick Landy’s 68 Dodge Charger…
Even though, in this scene, we see Dick here at “Lions” Drag Strip on a stormy day, flying a (AHRA Sanctioned) Super/Stock number. Landy chose to run his Charger (for the 68 season) in the “Modified Production” class in NHRA competition.
Being a true competitor, Landy felt the Super Stock classes as they existed, gave an unfair advantage to the Factory backed Pro Cars, which almost always prevailed over the hobby racer…
No matter which class he ran under whatever banner, no one could argue that Landy’s Charger wasn’t the car to beat…
Running the newly fabricated fiberglass hood and front fenders, the car also featured factory acid-dipped doors, and a plastic windshield, the interior was striped to a bare minimum, all in an effort to reduce weight…
I wasn’t able to get a win/loss record for this car before Dick passed away, but he did say this was one of his favorite cars…
