Arguably the most famous Gas Dragster of all time is the "Freight Train."
This is the second generation "Train" owned by the team of John Peters ( no relation) and Roy "Goober" Tuller.
Built in 1965 this "Train" became the first Gas Dragster to break into the 7 Second bracket.
The 161" wheelbase chassis was built by Peters with the help of Race Car Specialties. The engines started life as twin 283ci. 59 Chevy motors, bored-out to create a total displacement of 704 cubic inches.
Seen here at the 1966 Winter Nationals waiting to be pushed down the start-up road. "Goob" is at the wheel, with John standing behind the door of the push-car, and their smallest crew member standing nearby...
Those familiar with Pomona might recognize the exist ramp off in the distance, that ramp is still there, but my how things have changed...
