Al Bergler was a craftsman right from the start, an excellent fabricator and a hardcore racer.
In 1964 Al entered his Bantam bodied Competition Dragster in the Detroit Autorama Car Show and won the first ever Ridler Award.
Al had a series of Competition Coupe Dragsters through the 60s named "Aggravation," and he dominated the class until it was discontinued at the end of the 1969 season.
In 1966 when the Mercury Division selected Logghe Stamping Co. to build the first one-piece, flip-top Funny Cars, the Logghe brothers subcontracted Al to do the aluminum interiors and spoilers.
After that, Al did the sheet mental work for just about every top name in Funny Car Racing.
Al teamed up with Pete Seaton and Tom Prock to build the first Vega bodied flopper, and then went on to field his own line of "Motown Shaker" Funnies..
In this image we see Al's 1969 "More Aggravation" Comp Dragster, arguably his prettiest one of the bunch.
It featured a 23 Ford Model T Dragster body by Logghe Stamping Co. and was powered by Supercharged Gas 484 Chrysler Hemi with direct drive.
It ran as fast as a 7.80et at 190 mph..
